The way the adults in the camp looked after us and how they were in general was really good.

OUR TEAM

Camp Crusoe is a tight-knit team of friends and family who are committed to enriching children’s lives.

The core group have many years experience working with children both on summer camps and in the class room.

At camp they are supported by a highly trained and motivated team of camp counsellors, many of whom have worked at camp before and are planning a career working with children.

JEREMY

Founder & Camp Director

After school, Jeremy went with his best friend Ben to work at Camp Chingachgook in upstate New York and, having turned up a sceptical British teenager, immediately caught the Summer Camp bug in a big way. He left fully converted to the ethos of camp with a dream to one day start his own back home so that British children could enjoy the same wonderful experience.

Having spent 7 years in the British Army, followed by six more working overseas, Jeremy returned home in 2017 to pursue his passion and start a summer camp.

Jeremy and the team look forward to welcoming you to Camp Crusoe!

JO

Camp Director

As a veteran of over 23 seasons at summer camp, Jo has done every job at camp many times over and knows exactly what needs to be done to give the campers the best possible experience.

Having worked at boarding schools for many years, Jo has a wealth of experience in the pastoral and administrative side of residential care and is currently studying for a Master’s in Residential Education.

It is during summer camp, however, that Jo’s many talents are put to best use as she organises wonderful activities and plots adventures for the kids. Jo’s experience and passion for camp is endless and we are lucky to have her!

SUE

Camp Matron

Sue is a paediatric nurse with over 20 years experience. After qualifying with an advanced diploma in paediatric nursing from Bournemouth University, Sue spent fifteen years at Poole Hospital before making the move to Port Regis school where she is currently the health centre manager.

At Camp Crusoe, Sue is camp Matron and looks after the physical and emotional wellbeing of our campers, holding a daily surgery after breakfast and on call 24 hours a day to see to any injuries or to administer medication.

As well as her nursing role, Sue is a friendly face around camp and always has time for any young campers who are feeling homesick or who are in need of extra pastoral care.

Hattie & Hannah

Assistant Camp Directors

Hattie and Hannah are our two amazing Assistant Directors having graduated from the ranks of Camp Counsellors.

Hattie is currently studying to be a paramedic at UEA but has been with Camp Crusoe since our first sleep-away camp and is one of the first names on the ‘team sheet’ each year.

Hannah is in her third year at St Andrew’s and has been with us since 2021. She has recently completed her AD training and is also a Trustee of The Summer Camps Trust.

Both are firms favourites with campers and staff alike, especially Jo and Jeremy!

ARCHIE

Head of Camp Security

Hailing from South Carolina, Archie is no stranger to summer camps. He loves nothing more than camp season as he has weeks of non-stop attention and all the belly-rubs he can take.

Archie is slowing down a bit, but still has it in him to patrol camp, warding off any cats and squirrels that have their eye on afternoon tea.

A softy at heart, Archie is great with all the campers and has converted many a dog-shy child into lifelong dog lovers.

OUR CAMP COUNSELLORS

Our camp counsellors are fun and vivacious 17-25 year olds from across Britain from all backgrounds. Many have worked at camp before or have experience working with children in other capacities. They have all attended a rigorous 7 day training course which teaches them all they need to give our campers the very best experience and care. As with all the staff, they have passed an enhanced DBS background check.

At camp, each counsellor is a role model, mentor, confidante, friend and leader to our campers. Each counsellor has a group of 8 - 10 campers for whom they are responsible. Together, they live, eat, joke and support each other under the caring eye of their counsellor. For some campers, the bond they develop with their counsellor is the highlight of camp.

If you like the sound of joining us for summer camp 2021 as a camp counsellor then check out the info about our training and get in touch. It will be the best thing you did with your summer!
